How to get

Afytos is a picturesque town of the Halkidiki peninsula, boasting a stunning beach.

Afytos beach

The waters here are crystal clear, and the beach has been awarded the Blue flag for its cleanliness, having made the list of the cleanest beaches in Halkidiki for numerous years. Marine life is abundant here, with many species of fish populating the coastal waters. The beach can be divided into four sections.

·       The Central beach has a lot of stones and rocks scattered in the water. It is not a good option for children as there is an awkward entrance. However, the water here is crystal-clear so you can swim here wearing special shoes.

·       Mudunu beach is located to the right of the central one and it is two kilometers long. It is a great spot for divers. There are multiple bars along the coastline with beautiful sceneries of the sea. The entrance to the sea has many rocks, but there is easy access with a sandy bottom.

·       Nestled among lush green hills, the beach of Liosi, named after the bar of the same name, offers an idyllic setting for relaxation. Its narrow, sandy coast is interspersed with pebbles

·       Verkes is the best bay in Afytos, boasting a sand-covered sea bed with an easy entry into the water. The calm sea and gradually increasing depth make this the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway without the worry of waves. While the beach is partially equipped with sun loungers, it also features a plot without them, attracting fewer visitors during the season.

Due to its length, Afytos beach can’t be called over-crowded, even during peak season. You can always find a sunny spot here, despite the area’s popularity with tourists.

Infrastructure

Afytos beach belongs to the bustling resort town of Afytos, so its infrastructure is top-notch. You’ll find plenty of hotels and apartments for rent nearby, many of which are designed to fit the style of the village and blend in.

You can find plenty of taverns and bars here, open late and serving up cocktails as well as greek dishes. The beach is also equipped with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a volleyball court, with mini-markets a short walk away.

Unfortunately, the beach does not provide a great range of aquatic activities and is not easily accessible to visitors with disabilities (only by car). Slippery surfaces in certain parts could be a problem. However, there is plenty of soft white sand.

What to do nearby

The central square is where you can visit the main temple and the folklore museum. Plus, it’s great for shopping — you can purchase greek cosmetics, clothes, artworks, pottery, seasonings and even antiques. Don’t forget that Afytos is named the «stone balcony of Halkidiki». There is an observation deck with a panoramic view of the coastline.

Located on the Kassandra peninsula, the coastal town of y can be reached from Thessaloniki airport via bus no. 79a to the Halkidiki bus station, followed by a transfer to Afytos itself. Descend the mountain to reach the beach, either on foot or in a rented car.

Tips

Be aware that the beach is made of slabs, so it is highly recommended to bring swimming shoes or stick to the sandy areas to avoid sea urchins.
