How to get

Located on Ammouliani Island, nestled in the Singitic Gulf between the Sithonia and Athos peninsulas, Alykes is one of the region’s most famous beaches. Surrounded by lush hills and azure waters, it beckons those who appreciate natural beauty.

About Ammouliani

Ammouliani is the only inhabited island in Halkidiki, attracting both locals and visitors eager to enjoy its mild climate, picturesque landscapes, and crystal-clear sea. The island is a true paradise for beach lovers, boasting sandy shores and calm waters.

Beach Features

Alykes is a spacious beach with fine sand and a gentle slope into the water, making it popular among families with children. The beach is renowned for its cleanliness and clear waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The sea is typically calm, and there are no steep drop-offs on the seabed. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for purchase at nearby beach bars, while small unorganized sections allow visitors to set up their own umbrellas.

Infrastructure

Alykes provides everything needed for a comfortable stay. Along the beach, you’ll find a couple of beach bars and a small eatery offering a variety of dishes. Popular options include chicken fillet sandwiches, soutzoukakia, gyros, meze, and homemade ouzo. Nearby, you’ll also find a hotel and several villas and apartments, although most accommodation options are located on the opposite side of the island.

Activities and recreation

Those seeking adventure on Ammouliani will not be disappointed. The island offers water sports, diving gear rentals, and boat rentals. At Alykes, visitors can rent boats to explore nearby coves or go fishing. An organized campsite is situated nearby. Additionally, there are popular sea excursions, including cruises to Mount Athos, mini-trips along the island’s coastline, and journeys to the neighboring island of Drenia — a paradise with pristine waters and sandy beaches.

Getting there

Alykes Beach is situated in the center of Ammouliani Island, which can be reached by ferry from Tripiti port. The ferry ride takes about 20 minutes. On weekends, buses depart from the main port of the island to Alykes, Megali Ammos, and Karagatsi beaches, running from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Tickets cost around €2.5. At other times, you’ll need to rely on taxis or rent bicycles. If you plan to spend your entire vacation on the island, a transfer to the port might be the best option. A car may not be necessary on the island, as it is small enough to explore on foot after checking into your hotel.

Tips

  • The best times to visit Alykes Beach are May and early October when tourist traffic is minimal. This is when you can truly enjoy the beach's beauty without the crowds.
  • Experienced travelers recommend renting a motorcycle instead of a car to navigate the island’s dirt roads conveniently.
