Kalamitsi Beach is a scenic place, which enjoys a perfect location in the bay area, protected by the rocks made of yellow sandstone. It has become world-famous after the Macedonian rebels came here in 1854 to raise the residents of Halkidiki for a rebellion. At present, Kalamitsi Beach is one of the most comfortable and picturesque beaches in Sithonia. Herewith, is has a relatively small flow of tourists. It is a wonderful retreat where you can unwind within a tranquil environment, far from hustle and bustle of a busy city.

Kalamitsi Beach peculiar features

The coastline of Kalamitsi Beach is covered with soft white sand, twinkling in the sunlight. All that beauty is surrounded by the rocks and supplemented with turquoise crystal-pure waters.

Infrastructure and entertainment

Kalamitsi Beach will hardly fit travelers who are the fans of loud night parties. There are no discos and clubs here. This marvelous destination invites you to experience a relaxing atmosphere and a slow-paced life. It is so tranquil that you will not find even gift shops here, which makes it a terrific place for honeymooners and married couples, searching for seclusion.

Kalamitsi Beach provides all the necessary equipment for proper relaxation: sunbeds, shower, and dressing cubicles. There is also some space where you can comfortably stretch on your towel. In contrast to the majority of beaches in Greece, a sunbed is subject to extra fees, even if you buy a drink at the bar. On average, the rental of a sunbed will cost you €3. The beach also provides scooter, catamaran, and speedboat rental facilities. On average, the possibility to admire the beauty of the coastal nature will cost you about €25 per hour.

If you take a stroll to the center of the settlement, you will find a diving center. Diving within the Kalamitsi waters provides an excellent opportunity to see exciting fish species and even have a swim with an octopus. The cost of such a facility with an instructor will cost you about €50 per person.

The central part of the beach houses several taverns, where you can try local fish and meat dishes. Local prices are lower compared to fees applied in other coastal villages. Herewith, the service here is fast, while the meals are tasty. Furthermore, a visit to local cafes is the only evening entertainment here. While recharging your batteries at Kalamitsi Beach, you should necessarily try a casseroled rabbit, mussels, and stifado.

Kalamitsi Beach accommodation

There are several B&B hotels in close vicinity to the central part of the beach. Ammos Kalamitsi and House Stella are considered to be the most popular places for a stay here. In a short distance, you can also find a comfortable and well-equipped campsite area, designed for family holidays. Travelers are also offered a diverse choice of apartments and villas for rent here.

Kalamitsi Beach sits in the south of Sithonia. You can find it 5 kilometers away from Sikia and 15 kilometers from the settlements of Toroni and Sarti. The beach is situated by the foot of the resort settlement, bearing the name of Kalamitsi.

If you want to get to Kalamitsi from Thessaloniki, you will need to rent a car and hold a course for Nikiti. After that, you should turn in the direction of Porto Koufo or Toroni. You will need to overcome about 40 kilometers to reach the West Coast. The turnoff to Kalamitsi Beach is situated right after a road leading to Thalatta beach.

Tips

  • The sea entry within the area of Kalamitsi is quite steep. Furthermore, the water temperature here is always lower when compared to the rest of the Halkidiki beaches. Thus, if you plan a family vacation, you should better look for another destination.
  • The beach is a nice place to recreate in late July and August. When the heat reaches its maximum, Kalamitsi will gladly refresh you with its cooling waters.
