How to get

Possidi is a village named after Poseidon and one of the most picturesque resort destinations in Kassandra. Tourists flock to the local beach, which is well-equipped, long, and usually not too crowded. It is situated on the west side of the Kassandra peninsula, a location famous since antiquity. Not only foreign visitors come to enjoy the beauty of the area, but also the greeks, who build their summer homes here. Tourism in Possidi has only recently grown in popularity: it was only in the 80s that it was added to the map of Halkidiki resorts, quickly claiming its rightful place on it.

Possidi beach

Posidi is an ideal holiday spot for those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of life. The beach is mostly sandy, with a few rocky patches; the water is crystal clear, the seabed is shallow and the shore is smooth. It is the perfect place to go with children.

We also recommend taking a stroll to the sandy Possidi Cape, which is surrounded by the sea on both sides. It is a gorgeous area, virtually deserted and great for those looking to enjoy some peace and quiet. On one side of the cape, the sea is turbulent; on the other, it is entirely still.

Infrsatructure

A variety of restaurants, cafes, and a lounge bar provide a delightful dining experience in Possidi. With only a few establishments, one could savour the delicious offerings of a pizzeria, psarotaverna, bakery, and coffee shop. Additionally, a store selling bathing accessories can be found close to the beach.

The beach is encircled by a well-maintained embankment, perfect for evening strolls. Various amenities such as water activities, umbrellas, and sun loungers are available at the beach’s central part. You can even order a drink at the bar and use the sun loungers for free.

The coastline is extended for several kilometres, and if you go to the side, you can discover wild and secluded places away from the village.

A perfect place for a calm vacation

Possidi is an ideal spot for a tranquil break. Despite the influx of tourists, the village has managed to retain its serenity. Although not renowned for its nightlife, sit boats some cozy taverns that serve freshly caught fish. There are a few places of interest that are worth a visit, such as its symbol, the 1864 lighthouse and the ruins of the Poseidon temple, which were discovered in the early 90s. Built by eritreans, it was used as a site of worship to the God of the seas for over a thousand years. Not far away lies another ancient site, the ruins of Mehndi, once known as Possidi, which is mentioned in the works of the historians of the time.

Getting to Possidi from Thessaloniki (106 km) is possible by public transport. Buses from the airport and bus station of the city will take you to Halkidiki bus station. Then you can take another bus. To save time and make the journey more comfortable, you can rent a car and drive directly to your destination. The whole trip will take 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Tips

Note that some sections of the beach have uncomfortable entry into the water, so it’s better to avoid them or wear special shoes. Rubber slippers can be helpful when walking the pebbly parts of the shore, if you intend to walk to the sand spit in sit.

By renting a car or hailing a taxi, you can reach the breathtaking mountain village of Kalandra from Possidi. It is situated 4 km away from the shore. In the 14th century, this village was established and it still holds plenty of 19th century stone houses.
