Olympiada is a small village located in the northeastern part of the Halkidiki Peninsula in Greece, situated just 10 meters above sea level on the shores of the Orfanos Bay (Strimonikos). It is 95 kilometers away from Thessaloniki, which takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by bus. There is regular bus service between Thessaloniki and Olympiada, making it easily accessible for travelers.
In Olympiada, visitors can choose from a variety of accommodations, including three hotels and numerous private rooms rented by local residents. The village's infrastructure includes several taverns serving traditional Greek dishes, as well as shops that cover the basic needs of vacationers. The beaches in the area are known for their cleanliness and calm waters, with a particularly attractive beach featuring fine sand and a gently sloping entrance to the water, making it perfect for families with children.
One of the main attractions is the proximity to the ancient city of Stagira, the birthplace of the philosopher Aristotle. The ruins of this ancient city are located less than a kilometer from the village and are of historical interest to visitors. Additionally, on July 7th each year, Olympiada hosts a mussel festival, which attracts both locals and tourists.
For those interested in the region's history and culture, the Archaeological Museum of Polygyros, located in the town of the same name about 30 kilometers from Olympiada, is worth a visit. The museum displays archaeological finds from across the Halkidiki Peninsula, including artifacts from Stagira, Afytos, and other ancient cities.
